Night Of Nights to go ON!
Night of Nights 12 July
When:
Sunday, 12 July 2020
Description:
Night of Nights
http://www.radiomarine.org/
12 July every year. Begins at 0300pm Pacific time on 12 July. The first transmission will be at 0501pm Pacific time (0000 UTC 13 July).
Thanks
for the listing. This year the station facilities are closed due to
COVID-19 precautions enacted by the National Park Service. So we will
not be able to transmit on our usual KPH commercial frequencies.
However we are working hard (testing underway as I write) to remote key
two full power amateur transmitters on 3550kc and 7050kc under the call
W6AWO (the K6KPH call is restricted to use by transmitters actually at
the Bolinas transmit site). The transmitters are at Valley Springs,
California and the control point is at Inverness, California. Test
transmissions from these transmitters should begin shortly. On Night of
Nights the traditional opening message will be sent by these
transmitters after which W6AWO and other MRHS member stations will stand
by for calls. Live keying (as opposed to sending a file like the
opening message) may be a little stilted due to the way the control
software works. Speed will be 15wpm.

BATAVIA HAMFEST
Just got this email from Luke at the Lancaster Club...Please note the masking requirement. This is an outside event where I think you can easily maintain distancing... The NY Covid FAQ requires masks outside where you cannot maintain distancing...I asked him why the mask requirement and he said they are required by NYS....WHICH THEY ARE NOT!
This is the NYS Health Department FAQ on Masks.....
NOTE Masks are not required when you social distance. Is luke trying to tell us we can not distance in a grass field?
Ed Note
I contacted Luke @ The Lancaster club after he told me it was required by the state. I then sent him the text of the FAQ and he has not responded to my question asking if this is the clubs policy...
Please also note the exemption for those that have health problems that make them unable to tolerate a mask.
At this point members should carefully evaluate whether they will attend based on the Lancaster Clubs Arbitrary requirement for masking...I just can not see 70 + yr olds out in the heat with their breathing restricted. It Makes NO SENSE.
COVID-19 Face Coverings: Frequently Asked Questions
All New Yorkers must wear a face covering when outside of their home if they cannot maintain at least 6 feet from others. It is essential that people continue to practice physical distancing and good hand hygiene even when wearing a face covering — including keeping 6 feet of distance between themselves and others whenever possible. A face covering is one more precaution we can take to help stop the spread of COVID-19, especially by people who have COVID-19 but do not have symptoms.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a face covering?
A face covering is any well-secured paper or cloth (like a bandana or scarf) that covers your nose and mouth. A face covering with an exhalation valve should not be used as it allows unfiltered exhaled air to escape to others.
Who must wear a face covering?
A New York State mandate requires everyone to wear a face covering when outside their home if unable to maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others. Examples include walking on a busy street, going to pharmacies and grocery stores, or going to the doctor. You must wear a face covering at all times when riding public transportation, such as the subway, ferry, bus, taxis, and car services, even if you can maintain distance from others.
If you live in a facility that has shared kitchens, bathrooms, or other common spaces, wear a face covering when you leave your apartment or room.
People who are sick should wear a face covering while at home if they cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others, and at all times whenever they leave home.
Do children need to wear a face covering?
Children over the age of 2 must wear a face covering. Small children are more likely to touch their face covering, so caretakers should wash children’s hands or apply hand sanitizer often.
I have a health problem that makes it hard for me to wear a face covering. Do I still need to wear a face covering?
If you have a health issue that makes you unable to tolerate a face covering, you do not need to wear one. This makes practicing physical distancing and hand hygiene even more essential.
Do I need to wear a face covering when I am exercising?
No, as long as you maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others.
When do workers need to wear a face covering?
Workers must wear a face covering at work if they cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others. Employers must provide face coverings to employees for free. Your employer may have additional requirements as to when a face covering, or other protection, is needed.
I had COVID-19 and am better now. Do I still need to wear a face covering?
Yes. The New York State requirement to wear a face covering applies even if you had COVID-19.
What type of face covering is better — paper or cloth?
Either a paper or cloth face covering is fine, as long as it covers your nose and mouth. Do not use a face covering with an exhalation valve.
Please do not use health care worker masks, such as N95 or surgical masks. It is essential that we save health care worker masks for our health care workers.
How often do I need to wash my face covering?
If you are using a cloth face covering, we recommend washing once a day by hand or machine using detergent. The face covering should be fully dry before using. People should have a few face coverings so they can rotate for washing.
For how long can I use a paper face covering?
You can continue to use a paper face covering until it becomes damaged, dirty or wet.
Are there precautions I should take with my face covering?
Using face coverings incorrectly can spread germs. For this reason, it is important to properly wear, store and dispose of face coverings by doing the following:
Alexander Firemen Grounds
10708 Alexander Rd.Route 98,
One mile south of Rt 20 , Alexander NY 14005 MAP

Are there precautions I should take with my face covering?
Using face coverings incorrectly can spread germs. For this reason, it is important to properly wear, store and dispose of face coverings by doing the following:
-
Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand
sanitizer, every time you put on and take off your face covering. If you are unable to
clean your hands, be very careful not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
-
Do not put face coverings where others can touch them or where germs trapped in your
face covering can touch other surfaces, such as counter tops or your kitchen table.
-
Do not throw your face covering loose in a bag or backpack. Keep a plastic bag with you
to store your face covering if you will be taking it off when outside your home.
-
Properly dispose of used paper face coverings in the garbage. Do not throw single-use
face coverings or disposable gloves on the street.
Is it possible to make my own face covering?
Yes! A face covering can be a scarf, bandana or other cloth. See facebook.com/nycmayorsoffice/videos/729510477585270 for some ideas on how to make a face covering. Additional ideas can be found at cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent- getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html.

FT8DMC ANNIVERSARY ---> Further special callsigns celebrating the 3rd an-
niversary of the FT8 Digital Mode Club until 31 July [425DXN 1521] include
CB3DMC, XR3DMC and XR3FT8 from Chile (QSL direct to CE3GCA); GB8DMC from
England (operated by G8LIY, QSL via qrz.com and possibly LoTW), and OZ8FTDM

the FTDMC Anniversary Award can be found on https://www.ft8dmc.eu.
KH6VV/KH4 ---> The DXpedition to Midway Island [425DXN #1476] has been
postponed. "We've all seen the latest pandemic news. It's not progressing in
a good direction, or anything like the earlier predictions", Ron KH6DV
posted to qrz.com on 9 July. "We have encountered a strong and understand-
able pushback related to the original operation date of October 2020. Once
there was the possibility of moving the operation to the second half of Feb-
ruary 2021 the conversation turned more positive. The application for the
Special Use Permit for Midway has now been edited, and now proposes a period
of the second half of February and will be submitted this week. Two things
now need to happen: (1) we need more operator interest, and (2) we need more
donations to the expedition PayPal page(KH6VV[@]outlook.com)".
QSO TODAY VIRTUAL HAM EXPO ---> The first QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo (8-9
August) [425DXN 1519] has now confirmed a packed lineup of over 70 speakers
for the event. After each speaker finishes his talk, there will be a virtual
live Q&A so participants can get immediate answers to their questions. For
more information and to register, go to https://www.qsotodayhamexpo.com/.
Attendance is free and there are early bird prize incentives (donated by
sponsors) for registering by 24 July. The QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo will
run for 48 hours as a live event, then will be available as an on-demand
event for another 30 days.
WWFF SUMMER TOUR ---> Timo, OH1NOA (http://thehamradio.com/) is going on a
"WWFF Summer Tour" to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. He plans to operate CW
and SSB as ES1NOA/# (12-13 and 22-26 July), YL/OH1NOA (14-17 and 21 July)
and LY/OH1NOA (17-20 July) from 25-30 different protected areas. Updates
will be posted to the World Wide Flora & Fauna programme's website:
http://wwff.co/agenda/. QSL via the bureau and LOTW.
YASME SUPPORTING GRANT TO RBN ---> The Yasme Foundation has allocated funds
to purchase equipment needed to add 15 nodes to the Reverse Beacon Network.
These new nodes will be added in regions where there is a need for reception
reports to support amateur radio operation and where those reports will also
have scientific value for geophysical research.
Yasme was assisted in this effort by supporting grants from the Amateur
Radio Digital Communications team (https://www.ampr.org/), and by scientific
advice from the HamSCI (https://hamsci.org/) researchers. Information on the
node locations will be available after a final list of hosts is available.

425 DX NEWS MAGAZINE ---> The June 2020 issue is now available for download
at http://www.425dxn.org/index.php. [TNX IZ3EBA]
FT8DMC ANNIVERSARY ---> Further special callsigns celebrating the 3rd an-
niversary of the FT8 Digital Mode Club until 31 July [425DXN 1521] include
CB3DMC, XR3DMC and XR3FT8 from Chile (QSL direct to CE3GCA); GB8DMC from
England (operated by G8LIY, QSL via qrz.com and possibly LoTW), and OZ8FTDM
from Denmark (operated by OZ1KZX, QSL via LoTW and eQSL). Information about
the FTDMC Anniversary Award can be found on https://www.ft8dmc.eu.
