The source article states how great it was that Bitcoin was transferred on the 40 meter Amateur Band and continues on to say that no special license is necessary for these transmissions. Curiously enough it speaks of how easy it was to transfer this currency on Amateur Radio via JS8Call without addressing the fact that this transmission was illegal in the United States as private data keys must be used by the computers involved to make the data transfer.
Clearly KE8KRX, Mr Samuel R Patterson, of Ravenna, Michigan, a General class license holder, does not clearly understand the FCC regulations on Amateur Radio concerning encryption. One can only wonder if this transfer of funds was for commercial purposes, also prohibited by the regulations.
These articles only lend support to Theodore S. Rappaport, P.E., Ph.D., N9NB concerns over Pactor, Winlink, and Sailmail on the Amateur Radio bands.
One has to wonder over the national security implications of bitcoin in support of terrorist activities, and its illegal transfer via Amateur Radio.
